Fence Staining & Power Washing

A gray, mildewed wood fence often needs a good cleaning and a fresh coat, not a new fence.

Refinishing

Bring back the fence you already paid for

If the posts are firm and the boards are sound, a cleaning and a new coat of stain can make a tired fence look close to new for a fraction of what replacement costs. It also slows the next round of graying and rot.

We power wash, stain, and seal wood fences across Conroe, around Lake Conroe, and in the newer communities where an HOA may set the color. If a few boards or a post need work first, we can handle that on the same visit.

Options

Finish options for wood fences

Semi-transparent stain

Adds color while the wood grain still shows through. Wears gradually instead of peeling.

Solid stain

Even, opaque color that hides patched sections and older boards. A common HOA choice.

Clear sealer

Water repellent for new cedar when you want to keep its natural color as long as possible.

Power washing only

Removes dirt, mildew, and algae. Also the first step of every stain job.

We work on wood fences. Vinyl and metal fences can be cleaned, but they don’t need stain. See vinyl and ornamental metal.

Around Conroe

Why wood grays so fast here

Conroe gets long, humid summers and heavy rain, often in the same week. Boards soak up water, dry out in the sun, then soak it up again. That cycle is what makes pickets cup, split, and turn gray, and the damp keeps mildew and green algae growing on shaded runs.

Wooded lots see the most mildew. Shade and fallen pine needles hold moisture against the boards for days after a rain. Fences in full sun, like many on newer builder lots, have the opposite problem and fade faster.

A good stain with UV protection and a water repellent slows both problems. It won’t stop them forever, which is why we suggest planning a refresh every few years.

HOA colors. Many deed-restricted communities around Conroe have an approved stain color or a short list of them. We confirm the current rule for your lot before we start, so you don’t end up restaining.

Plants and neighbors. We cover plants, wet down beds, and protect the neighbor’s side when stain is going on near a shared line.

How it goes

The refinishing process

  1. Look it over

We check posts, boards, and gates, and flag anything to fix first.

  2. Wash

Power washing lifts dirt, mildew, and failing old finish.

  3. Dry out

The wood has to dry fully, which takes longer in humid weather.

  4. Prep

Rough spots sanded, loose boards fastened, plants covered.

  5. Stain or seal

The finish goes on evenly, both sides if you choose.

Questions

Staining questions

How often should a wood fence be restained around Conroe?

Every few years for most fences, but sun and shade make a big difference. A run that faces the afternoon sun or gets daily sprinkler spray fades and grays faster than a shaded one. When water stops beading on the boards, it is time.

Semi-transparent or solid stain?

Semi-transparent stain lets the grain show and wears gradually. Solid stain covers more like paint and hides mismatched or older boards, which helps after a repair. Many HOAs specify one or the other, so we check your guidelines first.

Can you match my HOA's approved color?

Yes. Tell us the color name, or let us look up your community’s guidelines, and we’ll stain to that color. If your fence was stained before, we’ll make sure the new product works over the old one.

My fence is gray and a few boards are loose. Stain or repair first?

Repair first. Stain won’t hold a leaning post or a rotted picket in place. We can fix the structure and refinish in the same visit. See repair and maintenance.
