Ornamental Fences

Slim metal pickets that frame a house, lake, or fairway instead of hiding it.

A formal edge you can see through

Ornamental fencing is the style; aluminum and steel are the materials. Vertical pickets run between two or three rails, with flat tops, spear points, or finials, and gates that can be arched or flat.

It shows up wherever the view matters: in front of a two-story home, along a golf hole, around a pool, or at the back of a lake lot. It looks the same from both sides and doesn’t compete with the landscaping.

Pros & trade-offs

See-through has its price

Pros

  • Open view of water, fairway, or garden.
  • Low upkeep and no staining.
  • Handles wind well.
  • Often used for pool barriers.

Trade-offs

  • No privacy at all.
  • Higher cost per foot than wood or chain link.
  • Standard spacing may not hold tiny dogs.
  • Steel scratches need touch-up paint.

Local conditions

Humidity, sun, and storms

Near water: aluminum doesn’t rust, so it is our usual pick for lake and pool lots.

Sun: a good powder coat keeps its finish through Texas summers; a rinse a couple of times a year keeps it clean.

Storms: wind passes through, and a panel bent by a limb can be replaced by itself.

Ground: posts set in concrete for the lot, after a Texas 811 locate.

Lake Conroe lots: land up to the 201-foot contour around the lake belongs to the San Jacinto River Authority, and permanent structures there need an SJRA permit. We confirm where your property ends before setting posts near the shoreline.

Good fit for

Ornamental fits when

  • The view is the reason you bought the lot.
  • You need a pool barrier that doesn’t block the yard.
  • You want a front fence that dresses up the house.
  • Your community asks for open fencing in certain spots.

Questions

Ornamental fence questions

How tall are ornamental fences?

Four to five feet is typical for yards and pools, with taller panels at entries and along estate frontage. Your community’s guidelines and any city rules for the lot also come into it, and we check both.

Will an ornamental fence hold my dog?

For most medium and large dogs, yes. Small dogs can slip between standard pickets, so we offer panels with tighter spacing or extra pickets at the bottom.

Can the fence run down a slope?

Yes. Panels can be racked to follow a gentle grade or stepped on steeper ground. Sloped lake and golf lots are common around here.
