A wall of boards, built to stay that way
A privacy fence blocks the view from the street and the yard next door. Behind most Conroe homes that means six feet of wood, vinyl, or composite with no gaps between boards. Eight feet comes up along busy roads and where a two-story house looks down into the yard, when the rules for the lot allow it.
On today’s smaller lots, where the neighbors’ back windows can be thirty feet away, a privacy fence does a lot of work. It also catches more wind than any other style, so the posts and how they are set count for as much as the boards you see.
Variants
Four ways to build privacy
Side-by-side
Pickets edge to edge on the rails. The lowest-cost option; small gaps can appear as wood dries.
Board-on-board
An overlapping second layer that keeps the fence solid through dry summers.
Shadowbox
Boards alternate on each side of the rails. Close to full privacy and finished on both faces.
Cap & trim
A top cap and trim board on any of the above for a heavier, custom look.

Privacy fence questions
How tall can my privacy fence be?
Six feet is the usual backyard height and eight feet is used in some places. What’s allowed depends on whether the lot is inside Conroe city limits and on your HOA or deed restrictions. We check the rules for your address before quoting.
What's the difference between board-on-board and side-by-side?
Side-by-side pickets butt edge to edge and can show small gaps once the wood dries. Board-on-board overlaps a second row of pickets so the fence stays solid. It costs more because it uses more lumber.
Can you replace the builder fence in my new subdivision?
Yes. Builder fences are often the first thing to lean or rot. We can match the community’s standard look or upgrade posts and pickets, and we handle the HOA submittal if one is needed.
Which side of the fence faces out?
Many communities expect the finished side to face the street or common area. Shadowbox and board-on-board look good from both sides, which helps on shared lines.
