No HOA, plenty of trees, and fences from another era
Cross the railroad tracks on Woodson Road east of I-45 and you are in Lake Chateau Woods. It was the original subdivision of what used to be the City of Chateau Woods. Homes went up here from the 1960s on, with most of the current houses dating from about 1976 to 1980. The area incorporated in 1975 and voted to dis-incorporate in 1993, when a MUD took over.
The result is a neighborhood that feels different from the master-planned communities around it. There is no gate and, according to listings, no HOA fees. Lots vary a lot in size, from small lots around 0.15 acre to half-acre parcels, and many are shaded by pines and hardwoods.
Wikipedia puts the Chateau Woods area about 10 miles south of Conroe, right next to The Woodlands. For us that means a short drive down I-45 from the office.

Fences that suit Lake Chateau Woods
Without an architectural committee picking the style for you, the choice comes down to the lot, the trees, and how you use the yard.
Cedar or pine privacy
The usual replacement for an aging wood fence, built on new posts so the line stands straight again.

An affordable way to keep pets in on a larger lot, or to section off a shed or work area.
Chain linkDrive and walk gates
Wider gates for a trailer, boat, or mower on the half-acre lots, sized to the actual opening.

Working around 40-plus years of tree growth
Trees that were saplings when these houses went up are now big enough to push a fence out of line. Roots lift posts, and limbs fall on panels in storms. Some lots also back up to greenbelt.
When we walk the line, we mark the trees that matter, plan post spacing around large roots, and flag any limbs hanging over the new fence. If you want only part of the yard closed in, we can do that too.

Before you fence in Lake Chateau Woods
- Check the deed records. Listings call this an unrestricted community, but that is how agents describe it, not a legal finding. Montgomery County deed records will show whether recorded restrictions cover your section.
- No HOA found. We found no homeowners association and no HOA fees in listings, so there is likely no architectural review. We still confirm what we can before quoting.
- Outside city limits. The neighborhood is in unincorporated Montgomery County, not inside the City of Conroe. We confirm which rules apply to your address.
- Old fence lines. Many fences here are decades old and may not follow the true property line. A survey keeps the new fence on your side.
- Drainage. On wooded lots we watch for low spots and runoff paths so the fence does not trap water against the boards.
- 811 locates. We call Texas 811 before digging so utility lines are marked first.
Deed restrictions, county rules, and utility easements can change or be hard to find. We confirm what applies to your lot before we quote.
Questions
Lake Chateau Woods fence questions
Do you serve Lake Chateau Woods?
Yes. We work out of our Conroe office at 1135 Grand Central Pkwy and cover the south Conroe neighborhoods along I-45, including Lake Chateau Woods. Call or text (713) 331-9419 for a free estimate.
Lake Chateau Woods has no HOA. Does that mean there are no fence rules?
Not necessarily. Listings describe it as an unrestricted community, but that is listing language. Deed restrictions recorded with Montgomery County could still apply to your section, so check the deed records or ask a title company. We confirm what we can for your lot before we quote.
Do I need a permit from the City of Conroe?
The neighborhood is in unincorporated Montgomery County. It was once part of the City of Chateau Woods, which dis-incorporated in 1993. City of Conroe permits generally cover property inside city limits, so we confirm what applies to your address.
My fence is from the 1980s. Repair or replace?
If the posts are sound and only boards or a gate have failed, a repair can make sense. If posts are rotted at the ground or the line is leaning in several places, replacing it usually costs less over time. We will price both when it is a close call.
