Conroe for fence buyers
Conroe is the seat of Montgomery County, and it has grown quickly. The Census Bureau put its population at about 119,600 in mid-2025, up from just under 90,000 at the 2020 count. Much of that growth lands in new master-planned communities, where a basic builder fence is often the first thing owners want to replace or extend.
I-45 runs north and south through town, with Loop 336 looping around the city and SH 105 heading east toward Cleveland. New subdivisions have spread out along those roads: Evergreen, Mavera, and Artavia along SH 242 to the southeast, Cielo off FM 1484 near the regional airport, and Grand Central Park at I-45 and Loop 336, where our office is.
The lots vary as much as the roads. Production homes on 40- to 60-foot lots back up to ponds, trails, and greenbelts. Older sections such as River Plantation, along the San Jacinto, have mature trees and fences due for replacement. Then there are the one-acre lots in Teaswood and Silverstone and the five-acre equestrian tracts in Red Oak Ranch. We plan each fence around the lot it goes on.

City, county, or HOA: who has a say
Around Conroe, the address on your mail doesn't tell you which rules apply. Three layers can come into play, and a single lot can have more than one.
- Inside city limits. The City of Conroe's Building Inspections and Permits department handles fence questions for property within the city. We confirm with the department what a given project needs.
- Unincorporated county. Many subdivisions with Conroe addresses are outside the city, often served by a MUD. City fence rules don't reach them, but deed restrictions still do.
- HOA or POA. Almost every newer community here has an association or architectural committee that reviews fences. We submit the details and wait for approval.
- Other cities and the lake. Panorama Village is its own city with its own ordinances. On Lake Conroe lots, land up to the 201-foot contour belongs to the San Jacinto River Authority, and permanent structures there need an SJRA permit.
We don't quote height or permit rules from memory. We check the current requirements for your address before we price the job, and Texas 811 marks buried lines before anyone digs.

Questions
Conroe fence questions
Do I need a city permit for a fence in Conroe?
Only property inside Conroe city limits falls under the City of Conroe’s Building Inspections and Permits department. A lot of Conroe-address subdivisions sit in unincorporated Montgomery County instead. We check which applies to your address and handle any permit step before the build.
My address says Conroe. Does that mean I'm inside city limits?
Not necessarily. Mailing addresses in 77302, 77303, 77304, and 77385 cover a lot of land outside the city, including MUD-served subdivisions. Panorama Village uses Conroe addresses but is its own incorporated city with its own rules.
Can you work with my HOA's architectural committee?
Yes. We put together the drawing, height, material, and finish details your committee asks for and wait for written approval before we set posts. Rules differ by community, so we confirm the current guidelines for your lot first.
Do you fence acreage around Conroe?
Yes. Acreage lots like those in Teaswood, Silverstone, and Red Oak Ranch often need long perimeter runs, wide drive gates, or farm and ranch fencing for horses.
How far from Conroe do you travel?
Our office is in Grand Central Park, on Conroe’s south side. From there we cover all of Conroe, Willis and the east side of Lake Conroe, and we travel north to Huntsville and east to Cleveland and Lake Livingston.
