An acre of pines, and a long way around it
Deer Forest is a different kind of job from the lake subdivisions to the south. The mailing address says Willis 77378, but the subdivision is in Walker County, in the New Waverly area, and it is zoned to New Waverly ISD schools.
Lots here are about 1 acre, wooded or partly wooded, and some owners have bought neighboring lots together for 2 acres or more. Listings mention paved roads, water, underground power, and fiber internet on streets like Iron Horse Road, Exploration Road, and Coyote Run.
Fencing an acre means a perimeter of several hundred feet, often through trees. So most of our planning here goes into the line itself: where it runs, what has to be cleared, and how the gates line up with the driveway.
Good fits
Fences that suit Deer Forest
On wooded acreage, the right fence depends on whether you are closing in a yard, a dog, or the whole property.
Acreage perimeter
Field wire or no-climb along the property line, with T-posts or wood line posts and braced corners.
Acreage & ranchSplit rail
A rustic, open fence that marks the line and suits a wooded lot without closing it in.
Split railDrive gates
A wide gate at the driveway for trucks, trailers, and mowers, set on posts sized to carry it.
GatesClearing the line
Fencing through the woods
A straight fence line through pines and underbrush takes some clearing. We cut what is needed to set posts and stretch wire, keep the bigger trees where we can, and bend the line around them when that makes more sense than cutting.
We also look for low spots and drainage paths on the walk. Wire fences let water through easily, but a privacy fence across a wet swale can wash out at the bottom.
Plan first
Before you fence in Deer Forest
- Deer Forest POA. The subdivision has a property owners association. We did not find its fence or livestock rules, so we confirm the current requirements before we quote.
- Walker County, not Montgomery. Despite the Willis address, the lot is in Walker County. We check which county and local rules apply to your address.
- Survey the corners. On an acre or more, an off line costs real money. A survey or marked corner pins keep the fence on your land.
- Combined lots. If you bought two lots together, we can fence them as one property or keep the old lot line, depending on your plans.
- Underground utilities. Power and fiber run underground here, so Texas 811 locates are a must before any post hole.
POA restrictions and county rules can change. We confirm the current rules for your lot before we quote.
Questions
Deer Forest fence questions
Do you serve Deer Forest?
Yes. Deer Forest is in south Walker County near Willis and New Waverly, and we drive up from our Conroe office at 1135 Grand Central Pkwy for estimates and installs. Call or text (713) 331-9419 to get on the schedule.
Is Deer Forest in Montgomery County?
No. It has a Willis 77378 mailing address, but the subdivision is in Walker County and is zoned to New Waverly ISD. County-level rules there are Walker County’s, so we confirm what applies to your address.
Does the Deer Forest POA have fence rules?
There is a Deer Forest POA, but we have not seen its fence or livestock rules. Ask the POA for the current restrictions, and we will confirm them for your lot before we quote.
Can you clear a fence line through the trees?
We clear the brush and small growth needed to set a straight line and keep larger trees where we can. If a big tree is in the way, we will talk with you about routing around it rather than taking it down.
What fence works well on a 1-acre wooded lot?
It depends on what you want to keep in or out. A common approach is a privacy or semi-privacy fence near the house, wire or split rail along the rest of the line, plus a drive gate wide enough for a truck or trailer.
