Fence Installation in The Woodlands Hills

A forested community laid out around neighborhood parks, where the fence line often runs past pines and toward a trail.

Open pine forest with a green understory

Built into the woods between Conroe and Willis

Despite the name, this isn't part of The Woodlands. Howard Hughes broke ground on The Woodlands Hills in 2017, about 13 miles north of its better-known namesake, and held the grand opening in July 2018. The community covers about 2,000 acres on the west side of I-45, fronting FM 830 and stretching north toward FM 1097 and south toward League Line Road.

The developer describes it as being in both Conroe and Willis. In practice, most mailing addresses read Willis 77318, and listings show Willis ISD schools. More than 4,500 homes are planned, and about 1,000 were in place by mid-2023, so plenty of sections are still filling in.

The plan is built around trees and parks. It calls for 20 neighborhood parks, aiming for one within walking distance of every home, along with 9.5 miles of hike-and-bike trails and about 112 acres of open space. Lot sizes vary widely, from compact production lots to larger wooded homesites, so there is no one-size answer to what fence fits.

Plan ahead

Before you fence in The Woodlands Hills

  • Association approval. Listings name The Woodlands Hills Residential Community Association. We get its current guidelines and submit your plan before building.
  • Trees on the line. In a forested setting, roots and trunks often sit right where a post wants to go. We plan the route and post spacing around the trees you want to keep.
  • Park and greenbelt edges. With so many parks and trails, many back yards face common space. Those edges can be treated differently from a shared neighbor line.
  • Which city, if any. The community spans the Conroe and Willis areas. We confirm whether a city's rules apply to your address.
  • 811 before digging. We request Texas 811 locates on every job.

Rules can change as new sections open. Your quote is based on the guidelines we confirm for your specific lot.

Good fits

Fences that suit The Woodlands Hills

Semi-privacy on park lots

Shadowbox or spaced boards give some screening while letting light and air through from the trees and trail behind.

Semi-privacy fences

Cedar that blends with the woods

Stained cedar sits naturally against pines, and a good sealer helps it handle shade and damp.

Wood & cedar

Composite for low upkeep

Composite boards don't rot under falling needles and leaves, and they skip the staining schedule.
